Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, detained for 15 days, will be transferred to a military hospital
The Attorney General has decided to transfer the former president in a military hospital where he will be placed in safe custody pending his examination, reported Friday the official MENA news agency. It is currently under house arrest in the resort of Sharm el Sheikh on the Red Sea.
The Egyptian judiciary wants to question him about corruption during his rule and crackdown on the demonstrations in the "revolution of the Nile" which led "to his fall. He was also accused of corruption.
His detention in hospital is accompanied by an "obligation to inform prosecutors when his health will allow it to be transferred to prison," said the official MENA news agency.
Hosni Mubarak, under house arrest in this seaside resort on the Red Sea after his resignation, began to be questioned on Tuesday. He suffered a heart attack during interrogation, which required hospitalization.
The former president was released Sunday from his silence to dismiss corruption charges against him and his family.
Hosni Mubarak, 82, suffered last year in Germany ablation of the gallbladder and removal of a polyp of the duodenum.

His two son Gamal and Alaa were also detained Wednesday near Cairo, for a period of 15 days as part of an investigation into the use of violence against demonstrators opposed to the old regime in January and February. They are accused of inciting to fire on demonstrators during the uprising of January 25 to February 11, before their father resigned under pressure from the street. Nearly 800 people died during the uprising.
Before the revolt, Gamal Mubarak was seen as the designated successor of his father.
